About Me

Hello! Thank you very much for stopping by. Welcome welcome welcome.

You have clicked the 'About Me' link and therefore I assume you would like to know more about me. Mum, if this is you, you don't need to read this bit.

Corporate stuff:

  • My name is Catherine, nice to meet you. I'm married, but I use my maiden name for writing because a.) Catherine Cruse is a cool name and b.) if I ever write an award-winning novel or become editor of Vogue, people I didn't like at school will know it is me.
  • I am a freelance journalist SO, if you want me to write something for you, email me at catcruseuk@gmail.com. I mean an article really, I am not going to write your English Literature essay or a letter of complaint to the Hilton you stayed in when the jacuzzi wasn't working (although ALWAYS complain about that, they give you £50 back).
  • I have been published on a number of websites and worked with the BBC following one of my articles to contribute to a documentary on Immigration. As in I was actually ON the BBC, and if you're wondering, going to the BBC and being interviewed is terrifying but so cool.
  • I wrote and marketed my own blog for five years where I worked with a number of leading brands. It isn't currently live but I did enjoy it a lot.
  • Find me @catscruse on Instagram  if you like pictures of white wine with London skylines in the background and on Twitter if you like a bit of left wing politics.
  • I have an English Literature degree but ended up working in tax. You can read more about that here. Don't email me about doing your end of year tax return. Trust me, you do not want this.

Okay, now the business part is over:

  • I live in London, just like everybody else in the world (or so it seems when you try and buy a drink in a pub on a Friday night). I love it, despite harbouring secret dreams of living on a farm with seven chickens and growing my own vegetables.
  • Likes (this reminds me of your old Facebook bio at uni...): a good TV documentary. Sunny festivals. Caramel macchiatos. Long walks ending in the pub. Podcasts about true crime. Wondering what happened to Jon Benet Ramsey.
  • Dislikes: the Kardashians. People who overshare on Facebook. People who use the word 'hun.' People who say 'your' instead of 'you're', or WORSE, instead of 'you'll.' ('Your love it hun.' Does that even sound like English to you?) The phrase 'Brexit means Brexit.' Cafes that put own-brand ketchup in Heinz tomato ketchup bottles (it's the lies, it's the lies I can't stand).
  • Once my husband and I argued for three consecutive evenings about our top five Beatles songs. Mine are, in ascending order: A Day In The Life, As My Guitar Gently Weeps, When I'm 64, For Noone, Something. Paul McCartney is my favourite Beatle and I will not be swayed on this.
  • My favourite book is between Ernest Hemingway 'The Sun Also Rises' and 'Shopaholic Abroad' by Sophie Kinsella. I will read almost anything but I am fussy about endings.
